Dongguk University was founded by Buddhist pioneers in 1906 to cultivate men of ability to save the country from crisis. This was during the late Chosun period, when our nation was running out of luck. Since then, Dongguk has produced talented people who have performed as leaders in various areas in Korean society and helped with the development of the country. In 1978, Dongguk University Gyeongju was established with the purposes of creating a strong national culture through combining the spiritual with the scientific, cultivating people who are leading Korea unification, supporting the community, and bolstering academic development. Dongguk University Gyeongju is based on a Buddhist foundational spirit and fosters competent people equipped with desirable personalities and capabilities required for the development of society. From 2011 to present, Dongguk has been chosen as one of the best teaching universities (ACE) by the Ministry of Education. As of 2016, the school has set a new goal for becoming one of the top three local private universities. To realize the goal I will do my best to educate students who play a leading role in our society and the world through ensuring internal stability of education, specialization, localization, and globalization.
